WHAT ABOUT LEAD & ASBESTOS ? ?
REMEMBER: It's important to note asbestos is only dangerous if the material is damaged and the fibers and particles become airborne and are breathed into the lungs as dust.
Asbestos was used in a variety of building components until it was banned in residential construction in 1977. The four major areas we see asbestos in our area is below.
Siding Material
Floor Tiles
Insulation
(vermiculite)
Ceiling Tiles
Sustained exposure to this naturally occurring element has been proven to be the cause of a particular kind of lung cancer known as mesothelioma as well as a variety of other health issues. As an inspection company, we feel it is our responsibility to report all suspected asbestos materials we find in your home. Although we are not able to scientifically confirm its presence when we are on site, we can take a sample to be tested at a lab and have the results back to you within 24 - 48 hours. Cost is $90.
Lead Paint
Lead was used as an additive to paint to increase its durability and dry time when it was applied. In 1978 the use of lead paint was outlawed due to its harmful effects when paint chips and dust are inhaled or ingested. Children ages 1-3 are especially susceptible to long term, chronic problems stemming from lead poisoning. Although we are not able to verify the presence of lead paint, we can take a sample for you to the lab and have it tested. Results are usually available within 24 - 48 hours. Cost is $90.
